We remember everything, it's like "becoming" one another.

yeah thats how switching goes
7:32 PM
i see "cofronting" or whatever just being a state where you throw the "driver's seat" back and front rapidly
7:33 PM
and by cofronting i mean both being there, which means you can talk to each other, the words don't really matter
7:38 PM
it really boils down to just doing it the way you feel it would work, and then it does, and for us its kinda just "allowing" the other one to answer as you're talking and then they do
7:39 PM
there's no one technique that's the way it works for everyone
Avatar
you can try journalling as practice for building contact with them

@Alex (@Abvieon {Alex}) - jump I am switched in right now (I am doing therapy work today), and when I'm focused on something it is difficult for me to focus on my other headmates. However, I can talk to Gray and Ranger while switched in. In fact, Ranger can possess me and I can talk to her while she possesses me!
Avatar

Actually Dream talking to me while I'm possessing the body is really weird
Avatar
just a general question for anyone to answer: how common is it for you/your headmate to say their own name in referral to you or someone else? im just wondering since it annoyingly creates some doubt in my mind and i wanna know if this happens to anyone else :P

Daily. It is so annoying. Every day.
Avatar
im confused what you are asking
Avatar
for example if youre talking to rusty and youre addressing him, youd say ink instead of rusty
Avatar
Oh that never happens with us
Avatar
huh? No, that doesn’t make sense, that would be very confusing
Avatar
Ye, brain will randomly spit out names of system members despite us knowing who we are referring to

maybe not their own name, but someone else’s
7:27 PM
hasn’t happened in a long time now though
Avatar
when speaking outloud that could happen, but in system I don’t think we have ever had that happen. I think if someone messed that up the person they were talking to would get irritated and it probably would fix itself because of that
Avatar
Skyler 🐉 BOT 7/26/2023 7:29 PM
it’s not uncommon for us to mix up any words Names just aren’t excluded from that But the proper definition is sent across
Avatar
sometimes I use "blank" instead of "$REALNAME" when talking to him
7:30 PM
that's the extent of it though
7:30 PM
everyone else is just their discord handles, and if they have pk or tb set up, it's not too hard to distinguish who I'm talking to
Avatar
our legal name is not attached to any person. It’s viewed as just the body’s name. If I called Rusty by their ‘real name’ that would be very weird and wrong

happens to us occasionally... seems to happen when a headmate is acting a lot like another headmate usually acts. I think it might reveal some hints about forms of address being mentally related to particular behaviours rather than particular headmates.
Avatar
I've heard people call it the "driver's license name" which I think is fun
Avatar
My legal name is my real name so
Avatar
yeah we've had that happen a few times, never when we talk out loud but in our own heads

9:01 PM
mixing names has never happened to me
9:03 PM
Am >I< the weird now since that doesnt happen to me?!
Avatar
idk do you converse with your headmates?
Avatar
If someone called someone else by the wrong name that would make us go through the whole process of figuring out who is fronting and who is speaking an all that again. I’d probably take it as a sign that whoever is fronting is loosing front for whatever reason and we need to either fix that or swap people around (edited)
Avatar
We don't mix up names when talking about our headmates, just when addressing them directly. Dunno why it happens

Sometimes when we're really confused I'll call Gray me and vice versa. It can happen at any time but I think it's more likely to happen during a switching ritual since we say our names. For us it's a "haha, lol" moment and then we move on. If it's a persistent issue, it may help to take a minute to ground yourself, maybe slow down the conversation by using mind voice or doing active forcing?
Avatar
Switching... ritual?
Avatar
A long kiss goodnight 7/26/2023 9:49 PM
We do slow switching, asking each other for verbal consent is part of our ritual
9:50 PM
"Gray, do you consent to switch (in or out)?"
Avatar
Ah We just say "hey do you want to front" and then the person's usually like "sure" then it takes like a minute or two after that

Can an aromantic host develop a tulpa who is alloromantic (experiences romantic attraction)? I think I have but... Admittedly I've spent the past 5 years thinking that attraction just wasn't something the brain did so it's kinda... Feeling improbable and would like an outside perspective

It’s possible. I’m biromantic and Error doesn’t seem to be interested in woman at all. But there are some times where you are so deeply rooted into a certain identity that you can’t really create someone else that feels differently. For example I am a dysphoric trans guy and I don’t think it’s possible for me to have a female identifying headmate. I also identify as asexual due to becoming sex repulsed due to trauma. Because of that I don’t think any other sexuality is really an option for my headmates, it’s just kinda the default

I'm Omnisexual and have multiple tulpas who are only homosexual or other things

I'm bi, my brother is gay, so anything is possible.

@The Flying Potato - jump I don't know if I was aromantic per say, but I definitely didn't have a lot of crushes. The one "crush" I had in like 4th or 5th grade I think I felt betrayed by later and decided I never want to have crushes again. After that, if I did have a crush I stuffed the feelings hard so much I didn't crush on anyone. Ranger didn't have that, so she ended up having a crush on my friend 🤦 That didn't cause drama thankfully because Ranger was respectful, but that did prove that I wasn't incapable of having crushes. Well, at least it motivated Ranger for me to stop burying my romantic feelings because she felt it wasn't healthy. After that, I think I have had crushes. What's odd is I never get all crazy in love like other people do though, and apparently unlike Ranger who was doing that thinking about my friend at the time. 🤷

Lucilyn: if we're talking just normal gender/sexuality weirdness then yes probably (edited)
5:38 PM
but if we were talking like brain damage/actual inability to feel certain feelings, then it would be very hard
5:38 PM
"faked" maybe
5:39 PM
but generally nearly everyone who identifies as asexual is still capable of feeling at least the slightest bit of sexual attraction so their brains would at least have a little reference for a tulpa yeah
5:40 PM
I think when switching they would still get pulled to the brain's norms though
Avatar
even if it's not like "sexual attraction", virtually everyone has the pathways in their neurology and endocrinology to feel those things
Avatar
The Flying Potato 8/2/2023 7:54 PM
I mean yeah that makes sense. I don't have brain damage iirc

How should you begin talking to your tulpa on the first day? Should you write down about them to give them a baseline for what you’re forcing?
Avatar
A long kiss goodnight 8/2/2023 9:50 PM
Sure, why not? There's not a universal or "correct" way to force. If it doesn't work, feel free to try something else
Avatar
and if nothing works?
Avatar
A long kiss goodnight 8/2/2023 9:57 PM
Generally you can achieve vocality within a couple months max, but if it takes longer odds are good it's one of two things, if not both:
  • A mindset issue/ an expectation on how tulpas work holding you back. OR you are going for the hard core vocal imposition route, which will likely take a lot longer anyway
  • You have a mental health challenge acting as a road block to achieving creation
It's usually easier to assess which one down the line and I would prefer to talk things out to figure it out

you can always just talk at them. your normal stream of consciousness, but you're directing it at them

you don't need to imagine anything, or focus too hard--all you need to do is imagine your thoughts are being directed "at" them, and they'll eventually receive it

i think everyone's perfect method is a bit different

Avatar
in the same way you pull your attention away from thoughts and towards sensation with mindfulness meditation, you push thoughts towards your tulpa
6:22 PM
and that's forcing
6:22 PM
you can also categorize thoughts as "their thought" in the same way
Avatar
Clover 💚 she/ae/lucky [from eries] BOT 8/4/2023 6:22 PM
that stuff is also handy
Avatar
at first it'll be conscious, "yes/no" kinda work, but eventually your brain learns how the tulpa thinks (what thoughts "feel like" them) and it becomes automatic

trust me i do too it is not impossible
Avatar
in the same way that you think thoughts are "yours" or "just an invasive thought", eventually your tulpa will have thoughts too
6:24 PM
like, if you have a self-identity at all, you can make a tulpa
6:24 PM
it's just a funny thing we can do with the identity-making parts of our brain
